Shawarma Dinner

Friends and co workers said that the middle east caters the best shawarma so that Friday night, we wanted to give it a try.  We headed to Marmara Istanbul Restaurant located just  near Al Asmakh Mall (about 10-15 minutes walk from our apartment)

At first we, were a bit intimidated to try this resto because all crew are men and most people eating that time were men but we were really craving to have shawarma at that very moment. :-)

So we headed straight to this resto and  ordered 3 beef shawarma for take-away (sawa na kasi kami sa chicken). Each cost 14 riyals (around Php 160), they have a smaller serving that cost 7 riyals, gutom na kami kaya we bought the larger serving.

While waiting for our shawarma, we  noticed that there are cars stopping in front of the store to order for takeaway.  This resto must really offer good food.

I took a photo of those men preparing the shawarma…..this made me hungry….

A few minutes our order arrived. We headed straight home. Excited to eat our beef shawarma.

It’s a big serving. I think it’s twice longer that what we have in Manila.

The shawarma was good and taste even better with their garlic sauce which looks a bit different…

Looks more like a mayo to me but it’s garlic sauce indeed…

Since the shawarma is too long, we cut it in half and I was happy to see whats inside…

Pure, thick slices of beef. Yummm. I was that full after finishing the half. The other half, well, It was my dinner the next day hahaha. :-)

You like shawarma my friend? :-)

Nostalgic

When I was in Melbourne for 6 weeks, I had this favorite Malaysian/Singaporean resto which taught me how to love laksa. Their laksa  is the best.

So when I come back here, I started to miss that resto. I have tried singaporean restos here in Manila but it didn’t satisty my taste.

Then my officemate Grei, invited me and hubz to have dinner at Orhcard Road, not in singapore ha.  It’s located at the 2nd Level, Bridgeway in SM Megamall.

After getting our table. I went to the cashier to order and pay.

We had Roti Prata with curry as appetizer. This reminds me of a friend who asked me to eat at spice kitchen in CBD, Melb. I ordered something like this, though it was more spicy.

Then my glass of bandung came

This drink is a mix of milk  and rose essence.  It tasted the same as what I had before though a bit sweeter.

Then came, hubs’ Milo Dinasaur.

It’s basically iced Milo with spoonfools of Milo powder on top. This reminds me  of my childhood. Drinking milo then eating a spoonful afterwards. :-)

Hubs also got a bowl of Bah Kuh Teh. I cannot tell if this taste authentic as I have not tasted Bah Kuh Teh yet. But I  remember my sister told me before, that Bah Kuh teh was her staple food when she was in sgp. According to her,  it has a rich flavor of herbs and spices. Hmmm….while this serving has a strong flavor of star anise. Anyway, masarap pa rin naman sya.

Bah Kuh Teh

We also had Mee Goreng. Eating this noodle dish reminds me of Ros and Yumnie,  lovely people I meet in Sydney. They were the ones who taught me to love mee goreng.

Mee Goreng

Then my warm bowl of seafood laksa came. Yehey….

It was good but not as good as what I have in kopitiam. I wanted it a bit more spicy sana (mild spice lang kasi) and more noodles din, ang konti eh.

Over all experience…the service was quick, the food was okay naman. The place was fine. I will go back definitely to try their other menu naman.

Feeling just a little nostalgic while eating here last Friday. I began to miss my friends from downunder.

Bonding with Friends

Last Friday, after work, my friends and I went to Sta. Rosa Laguna to unwind after a tiring work week.

It was around 7 pm when we arrived Paseo de Sta. Rosa. Dj was waiting for us there since he works a few minutes away from Paseo.

One of my officemate who happens to live nearby suggested us to have dinner at Industry Bar and Resto.

It was my 2nd time there and what I love about this restobar is that they have vegetable on their menu like okra, ampalaya and calabasa flower.

Like this one….

A serving of Adobo flakes  and mashed talong beneath.

and this one is a serving of okra wrapped in lumpia wrapper. Yumm. :-)

We also had grilled pinakbet. Sorry I forgot to take photo.

Then  fried pla-pla with binurong kanin was served.

I love the pla-pla but not the burong kanin…not yet ready to taste it pa. lolz.

While some of my girlfriends had this beer tower,

I ordered a glass of frozen margarita.

The food was really good, filling and cheap.  If you love eating vegetable, I know you will love this place.

It was a fun evening with lovely acoustic music, good food and great friends.  :-)

 How was your weekend?

Say Cheese

I still have quezo de bola inside my fridge from last Christmas. So I’ve been adding it a lot in most of my weekend cooking like caldereta, pasta and pies.

Like last weekend, I added shredded quezo de bola over my  nachos and cheese sauce. Yumm…

The husband and I enjoyed watching our favorite tv show while munching these cheesy chips. Sarap nya in fairness. Kahit cheese lang on top. Plain, simple and good. :-)

Next time, will add ground beef and veggies to make it more yummy….oh men calories hahaha!

Nachos and cheese anyone?

The Cake Planet and Cafe

I have to thank Bley  for introducing The Cake Planet Cafe in her blog. She was so right about this coffee shop. It serves finest lavazza coffee and yummy cakes.

So last weekend, after paying a visit to my in-laws, we headed straight to Cake Planet Cafe. Upon entering , hubs and I was greeted with nice hellos  from the two barista. While I was looking at their cake rack, the barista suggested their best seller Chocolate Macadamia Sansrival and the turtle pie. I remembered, that Bley order this both. So I gave it a try.

Chocolate Macadamia Sansrival

Turle Pie

I also ordered a plate of  pasta.

I must say, they not only serve good cakes but yummy pasta too. Hubs and I shared this plate of puttanesca. The pasta was firm, the sauce was perfectly blended. Yum yum.

Oh wait…dont forget to ask for their wifi password to get connected.  (I think, there is a minimum amount of purchase before they will give the password to customers).

Of course, my 1.5 hour travel from quezon city to bicutan wouldn’t be complete if I wont have a good cup of brewed coffee

Simply heavenly…

From the love of drinking Lavazza coffee to trying their desserts,  I must say…it’s a win…win place. This totally changed the “just another coffee shop – thing” to being a regular customer, too bad  Cake Planet is too far from our place, nevertheless, I told hubz to visit it whenever we visit the in laws. :-)

Chinese Fix at North Park

I have always loved Chinese food kaya after that bad experiene with this chinese fastfood,  I was really in dismay. Why you may asked…

Because whenever I have this craving over chinese food, that Imbyerna Fastfood  is my fix. But after of that bad experience, I promised my self not to set foot on that branch (infront of farmer’s Cubao) again and slowly trying to avoid to eat in all it’s branches.  Yun na!

Anyway, as I’ve said, I would always love chinese food, kaya last week hubz and I had dinner at North Park.

Because it was raining that time, we opted to have noodles.

Left was my bowl of Nanking Beef & Aniseed Beef Tendon.   The soup is amazing. You could really taste the beef in the soup. The Nanking beef and Beef Tendon (litid) was tender and flavorful. I loved it. With this soup you could never go wrong.  The other serving was Hubz choice, Fresh Prawn Dumpling & Nanking Beef . According to him, it tasted really good. Like the noodle soup I had, he enjoyed the hefty serving. :-)

Hubz also ordered chicken feet.

Well, I am not a fan of chicken feet. So he finished everything.  Masarap siguro kasi naubos nya.

We don’t usually order any drinks except water. It added fullness sa tummy kasi but, there is this drink that captured my attention so I ordered a glass of cold Chrysanthemum Juice.

After my first sip, I just made a mental note, not to try the Cold Chrysanthemum Juice ever again, quite a waste of excitement. It tasted like brown sugar dissolved in cold water hahaha.

Then after 2 days we went back to North Park to have dinner again, I just cant get enough. This time, we had a full dinner, as in full talaga.

We had fried rice with special sauce.  I think this is the most budget-friendly item in the North Park Menu. Priced 203 pesos, it includes a huge serving of fried rice that can be good for 3 people, and the sauce to be served separate from the rice, can be your viand already. The sauce has sliced mushrooms, asado strips, fish cakes, and vegetable in there.  Actually I did not know that this would a big serving so I ordered more…takaw!

Left… is the lechon macau.  The skin was really, really crunchy and the meat was deep fried, cholesterol pero how can I resist such goodness. :-)

at the right naman  is my personal favorite Fried Beancurd Skin w/ Shitake Mushroom in Soy Sauce.   I love tofu kasi, though this dish is just like fried tofu, yun nga lang, eto yung skin ng tofu, deep fried then topped with shitake mushroom. Masarap pa rin sya sa akin. :-)

Overall, we had our tummies filled, warm, and happy. Cannot wait to comeback to try their other dishes. :-)

For a change

I love breakfast. Good breakfasts make my day right. Kaso lately I’ve been eating breakfst at Jollibee or Mcdo. Nakakasawa na. So I decided to woke up a bit early to prepare breakfast today. Minsan, minsan ko lang magawa ang mag breakfast sa house, extra effort kasi talaga ang pag gising ng mas maaga. :-)

Anyway, here is today’s breakfst – hotdogs, sunny side egg and 2 slices of wheat bread.

Worth ang pag gising ko ng mas maaga.

What is your breakfast today?

Did you know….

….that Bicol express was popularized by Cely Kalaw, a native of Laguna and an owner of a restaurant in Malate, Manila. Kalaw’s family moved to Naga when she was three years old. When she grew up and returned to Manila, she invented the dish that became known as Bicol Express,  named after the train that travels from Paco Station to Bicolandia. Now ths dish is very popular and a favorite of most Pinoy.(Source: wikepedia.org)

We had this for dinner last night, If you want to try this easy version f Bicol express, hop on to my food blog.

Dinner last Night

It was a vegetable kind of day – and I end up cooking gising gising for dinner. I first tried this at Cafe Metro some years ago and really fell inlove with it. Since then, I learned the dish and cooked it often at home. :)

Gising gising is an easy-peasy dish, no special cooking skills needed. The recipe claims, it takes 20 minutes to prepare but I found it to be slightly quicker and still ended up being tasty!

If you want to try making this veggie dish, the recipe is posted  here

Thank God It’s Friday!!!!

Dinner Time

For the last two weeks, I’ve been cooking ahead of time for weeknight dinner. I prepare the meal during Sundays, put the meals in a not spill container, place inside the freezer and warm them up when they are ready to eat. Save time for me.

I made some researching over the net and here are some info I got in storing  food in the freezer.
the food is best to eat for at least 7 days. Food like potato salad with mayo in it 6 days. Sauces like tomato sauce with a lot of acid in it are good for 10 days.
Hmm…I have to keep this in mind.

Well this was our dinner last night. Sweet and Sour Pork. If you intend to cook this ahead of time, I suggest that you separate the sauce and pork when storing so that the pork wont get soggy :)

By the way, the recipe for easy sweet and sour pork  is posted is my other blog.

I might not do this regularly but atleast somehow doing this saves me time and money.

Have a wonderful dinner everyone

Brown Coffee

I love mornings. It’s when the warmness of the sun starts to ooze into the sky.

I love mornings, I love sunshine. I love it when the sun touches my skin and makes me feel better throughout the day but….. there are times when I hate getting up from bed. You know the feeling that you have to wake up and leave dreamland and you don’t want to. Alright!

On mornings like that whenever I feel so grumpy, I make a hot cup of instant coffee to perk me up. Yes, you read it right… instant coffee. Most of my friends knew that I am a brewed coffee lover but just few weeks ago I found an instant coffee that suits my taste. Got to thank hubz for introducing me to this instant coffee which by the way is my favorite now. It’s creamy, it has this bold coffee taste and the caramelized sugar flavor made it unique to the taste. Just perfect!

Nothing like a one, big, hot cup to start my day right.

C’mon share a cup with me.

Breakfast for today

Morning everyone!

I am having pancakes. Fluffy, creamy pancakes with melted butter and drizzle with syrup on top. Of course will pair that with a cup of brewed coffee. Yumyum.

what about you ?

So here goes….

Kimchi Fried Rice

Beef Bulgogi

Last weekend I decided to cook something new for breakfast. We had Kimchi Fried Rice and Beef Bulgogi.

The  Kimchi Fried rice was really good, according to hubz. But I think, adding more kimchi and kimchi juice will make it even better.  The beef bulgogi was also good but next time, I will sliced the beef thinner for easy cooking.  :)

So yeah…I enjoyed and learned something from trying these two new recipes.

Oh I posted the kimchi fried rice recipe here. Will post the beef bulgogi recipe soon. :)

Have you tried experimenting in the kitchen lately? Care to share the experience.

Happy New Week!

First Time Thai

PadThai

This weekend I felt inspired to cook something new in my kitchen. For me PadThai (or any other Thai dish) is a complicated dish to make, but when I did the cooking of the PadThai, it’s not that hard after all. :)

Like what I did in cooking my paella, a little more practice will make me master this dish. :)

Oh I’m sharing again the recipe here

How’s the start of you week by the way?
