Spam and Hotdogs in my soup

The earliest of Asian fusion cuisin

The husband has korean bosses, they usually eat out at korean restos where he learned this  soup.  So last weekend, the husband cooked this dish. At first I was like…what is that. I knew kimchi ramen but spam and hotdogs in my ramen sound so odd. But when I tasted it….it was super good pala. I so love it!

If you will ask what is this soup dish by the way.

Well Korean called this soup Budae Jjigae or Korean Army Base Stew. Hubz said, this dish was famous during the korean war. Hmmm….me ganun pala. So I googled and found out that he was telling the truth hahaha.

Budae Jjigae was invented in early 1950′s during the famine years of the Korean war and post-war period. During those times,  people had little to eat so Koreans’  managed to use leftover meat (such as spam and hotdogs) that was discarded or handed-out from the U.S. army bases to make this dish.

Up to this day Budae Jjigae is  still popular in South Korea.  The dish often incorporates modern ingredients such as instant ramen noodles and sliced American cheese and other ingredients which are readily available in the market.

If you want to try this one out I posted in my other blog hub’z version of  this spicy but comforting dish :)

Have a sweet day everyone.
