This Jane Austen novel took place in the early 1800′s. It’s a romantic comedy about the pride of a man and the prejudice of a woman.During this time, the only way for a woman to become wealthy, or acquire her social status is to marry a rich known man. Thus the books opens with this cynical conception of the value of love - It is a truth universally acknowledged that a gentleman in possession of a good affluence must be in want of a wife.
This novel is a mimicry of the conflict between the lower class and higher class of England as they each search for love, but each is baffled by pre-conceived ‘prides’ and ‘prejudices’ of other social classes.
The main protagonist, Elizabeth Bennett, a tenacious, intelligent woman meets richer, snobby Mr. Darcy, whom she hates almost immediately. Darcy’s pride respecting his status in society and Elizabeth’s prejudice against Darcy’s arrogant behavior keep these two apart. She learns things from some other acquaintances about Mr. Darcy which make her dislike him even more. However, she soon learns that she may have been misled about him. At the end of the novel, Darcy shows his genuine feeling for Elizabeth. She realized that first tingles may not ceaselessly be right right after all.
And they love and live happily. Ahhh…..I love happy ending !

I considered this Jane Austen novel as the finest. I enjoyed reading some Austen novels but this is a true favorite. Oh by the way this would be our last read for Jane Austen Book Club . Now if you read the Pride and Prejudice already why not join the contest here, it’s open to everyone. You still got few few hours to join!
Wits our dear hostess, thanks for this wonderful book club

sound good. i just wish i have all the time to read a book these days.
wish ko one day umupo at magbasa lang ng libro. Wala na kasi akong panahon magbasa kahit gustuhin ko man. huhuhu
i love the book! and the film adaptations too – both the bbc film and the one by keira knightley. it has one of the most amusing opening lines for me – “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” Catchy!
I can just imagine the effort of Elizabeth’s mother to find them wealthy husbands. As to the title, I agree. But also Elizabeth has huge pride (haha). It’s admirable of her not to marry just for the sake of money.
love love this book, it’s the best by far to me…
