September, October, November…three months. I am way way late for the Jane Austen Book Club. My bad!!!!
So now, I am trying my very best to catch up with my readings. This week, I finished Emma.
Emma Woodhouse a rich, a bit spoiled lady wanted to meddle with other people feeling and love. She fancied to be a matchmaker. While Emma was doing this matchmaking stints, a lot of troubles arises. Which hurt other people’s feelings.
Throughout all the tangling relationships Emma has conceived, her old friend, Mr. Knightley minds over her shoulder and steps in when he think things are going too far. Albeit Emma does not ceaselessly listen to him, and thus bears the aftereffects.
The real agony enters when Harriet, falls in love with Mr. Knightley, who is far above her in breeding, social status, and intelligence. By this time Emma learns, apparently too late, just how much she loves Mr. Knightley herself.
True enough this story involves many unsuspecting twists and turns.
In the end, Mr. Knightley wed Emma while Harriet on the other hand did not feel ill because her old flame Mr. Martin proposed and they were married too.
Everyone find their own love match. Happy ending indeed. Don’t you just love happy ending ?
Emma is another Austen classic. Actually I started reading this last September but at the beginning of the story I was really bored so It took me months to get back with it. On my second read, after reading few more chapters, I find it a very amusing book and the various characters really show Jane Austen at her farsighted best . An A1 novelist indeed. I am sure glad I decided to finish it.
So I may conclude that ….He who loves will be happy for real when he finds the real match!
And Let me share one of my favorite line from Mr. Knigthley
“I cannot make speeches, Emma . . . If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.”
Isn’t romantic…
Now, off to my next book, Mansfield Park!
Oh Happy weekend eveyone.
