Veronika decides to die

This made me cry. No, not the story but the book itself…wuahhh…

Somebody borrowed it. She was so persistent and since I am a good soul (yeah I am), I let her have my book. So after a month (gee, took her too long to finished it) she handed it back and I was disheartened on seeing Veronika.

It looks like this now…. :(

The front cover has a fold mark and the back cover…it’s worn out. To think the book was new when she borrowed it, she was the next person to read it after me. It breaks my heart when I saw it. I cherished my books as precious possession, as a treasure. Sigh….

So what happen with my friend who borrowed it….
She saw me reading Austen’s last week and wanted to borrowed it, I said, maybe next time. But I really do not know if I will let her again. I am bad, am I?

Hmmm…Let’s just forget this.
I’m a okay now, sharing this online is a relief, though I’ve told this to hubz, he suggested not to share my books to her again….hahaha. Let’s see :)

Hope everyone’s having an awesome week!

  1. OUCH!

    That made my heart ache.

This is why I hate lending books. No matter how much I trust someone, I still can’t part with my books. Except if they’re my sisters.

  2. I take good care of books, and everything I have, and people wanting to destroy them are a bunchful of deteriors…

bad for them, but hey, learn a lesson here….never let them have a touch on your greatest possessions again, am i being that bad?

  3. Wow, I’m like that too. I really take good care of my books. Once, someone borrowed my Da Vinci Code book and she returned it with creases on the spine. These were creases which were so evident . Sigh. I did not lend her any book again. hehehe. Sounds cruel, pero di ba, she should at least take care of other people’s things.
    :)

  4. ay nakakainis nga ‘yan! curious lang ako kung ano sinabi mo sa kanya when she handed you the book.

btw, like mo ba yang story nyan? ako kasi ang tagal ko basahin – paputol-putol, kasi nade-depress ako ‘pag binabasa ko ‘yan. hindi ko nga maalala kung natapos ko ba.

  5. I treasure my books and own a lot of them. My brother used to own a used book store and my sister is an avid reader and writer. We are a bookish family. The only people I lend books to are my family because I know how they treasure them too.

I think she was very thoughtless to treat someone’s property that way.

I’m sorry that happened to your book. By the way was it a good book? I am always looking for good books to read. Don’t worry, I won’t ask to borrow it. I will take it out of the library :-) .

  6. Aaw! That happened to me, too. Give your friend a “Borrowing 101″, handle it with care. =) Btw, enjoy Persuasion!

  7. Oh no! I’m sorry to hear about that. Some people don’t really care when it’s not their own. In some way, it is a reflection of themselves, how they treat things that are not theirs. Nakakainis talaga yung ganun!

If that happened to me, I’d have them buy me a new one. And I always tell them that it should look as I gave it when they return it. If not, then be prepared to replace it.

  8. hehe, that happened to me many times too. :)
i didn’t learn quick enough eh?!
the worst thing that could happen is when they lose the book, i’ve been there too, and i could not explain how annoyed i was. some people just don’t care. grrr
thanks for the recipe jeanny, i’ll take a swing on it. :)

  9. or maybe just remind her this time to take good care of it and return it in good shape.

  10. hi jeanny! if you really can’t help but lend her your book, lagyan mo muna ng plastic cover bago mo ipahiram. at least, kahit papano, may protection ang book mo.

pero sa totoo lang, nakakainis nga yung mga ganyan. nagkaron na rin ako ng experience similar to that dati. ang ending… di ko na rin sya pinahiram ever! hahaha! :D
